A Night With Lasers...and a Camera

Son wanted to play Laser Tag for his birthday this year. It worked out great for me because he only wanted to invite two people. What a deal!

The place is basically a maze of plywood and neon paint with black lights.

I used the flash in this pic. You can see more detail.

This is without the flash...

And this is without the flash or a stable surface for the camera... I thought it looked cool.

Cheesy mural...

I couldn't get any good pics of the kids playing. I didn't want to use the flash and blind them during the game. Oh well. These pics were fun to take.

Yeah, What She Said!

Over the past week I've had to explain to a few people the difference between my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (or the FLDS). This is, of course, in response to all the network and cable news organizations that are covering this story. I only wish that the news media would get things right and distinguish the differences between the two sects.

And apparently, I'm not the only one that is bothered by this. I'd like to thank Erika over at DRY Ink for referring to Gab's post...she said it well.

And thanks to Anderson Zoo Keepers for posting this in a comment to Gab's post:

Gordon B. Hinckley (former President of LDS Church), 1998:

“I wish to state categorically that this Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. Most of them have never been members. They are in violation of the civil law. They know they are in violation of the law. They are subject to its penalties. The Church, of course, has no jurisdiction whatever in this matter.

"If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church. An article of our faith is binding upon us. It states, 'We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law' (Articles of Faith 1:12). One cannot obey the law and disobey the law at the same time.

"There is no such thing as a 'Mormon Fundamentalist.' It is a contradiction to use the two words together."

He Said He Didn't Meet Any Snow Bunnies

Son spent part of his spring break skiing in Telluride, CO.

Yes, I know you are jealous, as am I. But we must get past that.

Here is Son with his Grandma.

Son on the slopes.

This is a great look for him, don't you think??

I have to share.

Many of you are aware of my obsession. So, here's a fan-made trailer for the upcoming movie!

And This Is Why....

......my house smells like smoke and I need a new microwave.

Son wanted to make some Easy Mac. No problem. We are happy that he's showing more independence. He forgot, however, to add water to the bowl before he set the microwave to 3 minutes and 30 seconds on high power. *cough*

I'm not sure if I will ever be able to get the smell out of the microwave.

On a happier note...

We had a houseful of people yesterday to celebrate the Ides of March. Not because we are weird Shakespearean nerds ("Et tu Brute?"), but because it was MY birthday!

Wasn't my cake just gorgeous!? And it tastes amazing (yes, I made sure I had leftovers!).
